What the heck is Coffee Prince?

If you are like me and have been surfing the web on anything Korean, i am sure you are bound to come across Coffee Prince. Hmmm...it has a nice ring to it don't you think? I am sure to coffee lovers out there, it will remind you of the aroma of rich, full-bodied coffee...but i digress.

Coffee Prince or The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince is a Korean MBC drama which was just aired in South Korea.

Korean Title: 커피프린스 1호점
Broadcast Period: 2007-Jul-02 to 2007-Aug-21

Synopsis:
It is the story of the difficult life of a young lady called Go Eun-chan (Yoon Eun-hye).

Single and eligible Choi Han-kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a huge food company. His grandmother wants him to get married desperately so she arranges dates for him. Eun-chan bumps into Han-kyul, and is mistaken for a boy. The latter hires Eun-chan as his gay lover to avoid his grandmother's arranged dates.

Han-kyul's grandmother makes Han-kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop which is in danger of closing down. Desperate for money (which is why she agreed to be a hired gay lover in the first place), Eun-chan begs to work at the coffee shop and feelings between Eun-chan & Han-kyul starts to blossom.

Tomboy Eun-chan (left) is the hired gay lover of
Han-kyul,
but genuine romance blossoms.

I like the sound of the title of the drama, but not too sure about the story line. Staged gay lover turns into genuine love interest? What do you think? Is it worth a watch?

I like the fact that the girl is not the usual stereotype - long haired and pretty. In this drama, the girl is a bit of a tomboy, yet manages to attract good man.

I will watch!

I love Coffee Prince. I've watched it and its worth the time spent infront of the TV screen. If you're a YEH or GY fan -- you cant miss this. For the rest -- go and give it a try.
Its unlike the other kdramas. Its fresh in the sense that there's a twist in the usual love triangle/rectangle concept -- that the lead girl is mistaken for a boy by the lead male which causes a lot of misunderstanding. Very Shakespearean.
The kdrama is also very well-acted by everyone especially the lead stars. And the soundtrack is absolutely amazing. have to watch and listen for yourself.
