Song Il Gook wins Best Actor at the 2008 KBS Drama Awards
Song Il Gook (38) walked away with the Best Actor award at the 2008 KBS Drama Awards on 31st December 2008. Song, who obviously did not expect to win the award appeared surprised and in a daze when his name was called.

I can't believe this is happening...
...it's beginning to sink in now...I won! Oh no...the speech!Many had speculated that this year, Kang Ji Hwan (Hong Gil Dong) would walk away with the Best Actor award but to everyone's surprise, Song Il Gook won.
Song Il Gook won the award for his role in the historical drama Kingdom of the Wind (바람의 나라). The drama is currently still airing on KBS TV2 and is aired on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:55pm.
Kingdom of the Wind is adapted from the manhwa by Kim Jin-I set in a time where the Three Kingdoms of Korea (ancient Korean kingdoms of Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla) existed. Song plays the role of Prince Muhyul who later reigned as King Daemusin, the 3rd ruler of Goguryeo.
I have only seen Song Il Gook in the movie The Art of Seduction. Now this historical drama sounds interesting!

I've only watched the first episode... but its so funny to think about it!
Song Il Gook played the founder of the kingdom as Jumong.
Than Bae Young Joon played the grandson (or great-grandson... well, something around there) of Jumong in The Legend XD
And now Song Il Gook plays the grandson of Jumong too~ (even though he was Jumong in the Jumong series.
And when Bae Yong Joon won the daesang, the previous daesang winner had to hand in the award to the new winner and because it was Song Il Gook who won Daesang the previous year for Jumong, it was like Jumong (the mcs even called him King Jumong at the awards when he came out XD and asked him to award Bae Yong Joon in that old saegeuk tone... but Song Il Gook was too shy -_-;;) passing the daesang to his grandson XD
(I forgot to mention... that ancient sword that Bae Yong Joon uses in The Legend in the beginning... that was suppose to be Jumong's sword XD)
I am from Turkey and i am a fan of Song Il Gook, i am so glad that song il gook won... i had seen him first in emperor of the sea, he was a villain but he captured our hearts and then i have watched jumong, arts of seduction and i see kingdom of the winds...

The KBS Drama awards are on in a hour here, in LA. Following that is the drama "Kingdom of the Winds". I will take a look. They just finished up a really really good historical drama, "The Great King, Sejong".
OK, first to the drama awards:I read the link to the reviews of the MBC drama awards. Lackluster seems like a pretty good thumbnail. As to KBS: I was very happy to see the Queen, in "... Sejong" win. That was nice, and very appropriate. Now on to "Kingdom...". WOW. Yup I'm hooked. This is going to be good, nah GREAT. I do recognize Song from "Art...", and he is way better here! If you get a chance, park yourself in front of this drama!
yoona won 2 awards! love her in you're may destiny! hey, did u catch the musical performance? yi pil moo was really cute when he sang honey... hehehe...and of course yoona was sexy when she danced! by d way, what were the 2 awards that yoona won eh? everything was in korean on kbsworld last night & this afternoon and didn't understand anything... all i could understand was the word yeonja lol
Kingdom of the winds is a very long series and right now they are showing 215 plays and I am already at 210!!! So with that said..the drama is extremely ADDICTING! I am really enjoying this drama and I recommend it to anyone who is curious about watching it. It has all the great elements that a series of this genre should have. Enjoy and prepare to lose some sleep..haha =)

Boohoohoo, my fave Kang Ji-hwan lost to him.I'm not familiar with Song Ilguk, apart from the fact that he was in the Art of Seduction and he beats the crap out of ppl !!
Yunah and him looked so stunned when their names were announced, it looked a bit fake. Then, again, they're fine actors, aren't they?
Kang Ji-hwan was so endearing and his expressions are so natural. I hope fame NEVER EVER changes him.

you guys should watch kingdom of the wind.its really great drama.
there are bunch of lotta people watching this drama already at Viikii and I'm one of them. Among the other competitors in the same category, SIG gave the most outstanding performance. His role as Muhyul was simply breath-taking no doubt.
I've been watching KOTW and SIG is awesome in his performance, he much deserve the DAESANG award not just the excellence award He is a GENIUS in his craft(ACTING)tremendous performance, he made a different attact on his role in this series which is very different in JUMONG. He made sure his acting performance is 2 different kind is determined. GOOD JOB my IDOL. More projects to come!!!!!
