The Legend goes on air

The whole of South Korea is probably a-buzz with it's new historical fantasy drama. Yes! Finally MBC's much anticipated epic drama The Legend or "Taewangsasingi" (태왕사신기) staring Bae Yong-joon (배용준) started airing in Korea yesterday. It is also known as 'The Four Guardian Gods of the King'.

The drama is written by Song Ji-na and directed by Kim Jong-hak. Not only is this drama of epic proportions and cost a whopping 43 million won to produce, it is Bae's comeback drama after his 2002 hit Winter Sonata. Bae is also known as Yonsama in Japan and his fans are definitely waiting to see him again.

In Korea, a "Taewangsasingi Special" was aired with a sneak peak of highlights from the drama and behind-the-scenes interviews with the director and actors.

In this first-ever Korean historical fantasy drama, you will get a double dose of Bae Jong-joon. He plays two roles:

  1. Hwanwoong, the father of Dangun, who is believed to be the son of God and founder of Korea's first kingdom Gojoseon (2,333 - 108 B.C.)
  2. Damdeok who grows up to become King of Gwanggaeto, the 19th ruler of the Goguryeo Kingdom (37 B.C. - A.D. 668)
The drama also stars Moon So-ri, Lee Ji-a, Choi Min-soo and Park Sang-won.

For those who are curious, i leave you with a few drama stills. Looks like they use quite a bit of CGI in some of the scenes and to create the ancient creatures. Reminds me of Lord of the Rings. I wonder if this drama is as good.
