Korean Cultural Insights

Covering a wide range of topics from the history of Korea to the traditional thoughts of the Korean people, this booklet on Korean culture makes an informative and interesting read. However, some sections are a little dry and I couldn’t help but feel that I was reading a text book.

But all is not lost as the booklet serves up some very entertaining portions as well. I especially enjoyed the sections below:

Korea, Koreans and Korean Culture – learn about the nation’s symbols and how the division of North and South was formed. The front line during the Korean War (1950 – 1953) is the truce line that separates the nation today.

Traditional arts – focusing on music, dance and folk games. Voice is actually the most significant musical instrument of the Koreans. No wonder there are so many singers of quality in Korea. The nation has been honing their God-given instrument since ancient times. Look out, world.

Traditional lifestyle – architecture of houses, garden landscaping, traditional wear, kimchi and other essential food. Colourful pictures here. Excellent for someone with a short attention span like me.

Traditional thought – How Shamanism, Buddhism and Confucianism got a foothold in Korea.

As you can see, the book is packed with loads of facts.
