Steps to audition for Rain

Revised and updated on Jan 6, 2008. 감사합니다, Joe Gimm!

So you've visited Rain's new official website and now know that he is on the hunt for fresh talents. The Energizer Bunny’s spanking new talent agency called J-Tune needs talents (what else?) and you could very well be one of them.

Disappointed that the e-mail audition call is written in Korean? Well, fret not if you are a K-popped! regular because after four days of wading through Hangeul, utilising modern technology, and almost getting permanently crossed-eyed, I'm proud to present you the English version of the advertisement (paraphrased Liz’s style, of course).

Disclaimer: Applicants must not completely rely on K-popped!'s translations and if they know what's good for them, must solicit the aid of a Hangeul-literate person for confirmation of facts.

Contract: If you become a big star because of this entry, you must remember K-popped! and grant them exclusive interviews and an all-access stage pass to your concerts, or we will come and haunt you. Mwah ha ha ha ha...

Enough talk, here it is:

E-mail audition

Psst, how did I do with my translation? Anyone who'd like to correct my mistakes, please feel free to do so :-).

omg it's not even "Asian only" like SM's auditions?
<333 I love BI!!!

wow Liz, kudos on translating that long audition advert!

I can vouch that you got the e-mail address correct - rain.audition@gmail.com ;-)

Maybe they can make a drama out of this...a pretty & talented girl sends in her tape for audition and Rain takes her under his wing and trains her and they fall in love and live happily ever after! :-P

Anonymous said...

The pic in the ad looks like Bi is offering escort services!

Liz said...

Yes Orchid, and the girl happens to be able to balance an egg on her forehead!!! Yesss.

Anonymous said...

I wan oppa's escort service. Where to sign up? hee hee heeeeee

Anonymous said...

wat? rain.audition@gmail.com ? someone correct me if i'm wrong, but don't they have their own domain name....

Unknown said...

I tried to sign up but I got lost halfway through and I don't think it worked :<

~A

Liz said...

Erm ~A, you're supposed to send all the info needed as an e-mail to the address stated. You mean you tried to sign up for the site? That's a different thing altogether.

Anonymous said...

uh...but korean trainees are normally fully supported by the respective management. this includes accomodation, education, training fee etc. which is why its very hard to be trainee. but it seem like rain's trainee need to pay everything themselves ? thai is not the proper way ^^;;

Liz said...

Heya Anonymous, my advice is to check with someone who is proficient in Hanguel. A lot of guess work went into my translation. The sentence I got out of that was:

Passing debut immediately all training Dutch from assigned hour 100% voluntary it gives.

So my conclusion was that trainees have to pay for their own living expenses.

There's ALWAYS a possibility I translated it incorrectly. Anyone wants to help clarify that?

Anonymous said...

wait.. trainees must pay for their own living expenses?!?! so if your a trainee for 7+ years (hypothetically speaking) you better hope you become famous FAST and make the big bucks or else you'll be a poor in-debt star...LOL! or maybe i could be misinterpreting the translation? XP

Liz said...

My apologies everyone. I translated that incorrectly. I got a kind Korean friend to double check on that.

The last part should read: People who pass the test, company wil pay for every expense for training until make his/her debut.

I'm going to change the entry now, OK? Special thanks to Junng Jong Cheul :-)

Liz said...

So now that you know Rain's J-Tune will be picking up the trainee's tab, who among our readers are going to give this e-mail audition a shot?

Mandy said...

whoa! this sounds fun! i think i might give it a trry! after spm examinations that is.. haha. minus one track? isn't that like song without vocals or something?

Liz said...

Yup Li May, a minus one track is where there's only the music but you have to record your vocals on it.

All the best! :-)

Unknown said...

this is great! um does anyone know when the deadline is? =S or if there even is a deadline?

Liz said...

hey perfection <3, there doesn't seem to be a deadline, so just send in your stuff! :-)

Unknown said...

thank you!! =) does it matter if the voice clip is studio recorded or just at home? =S

Liz said...

Hi perfection, I don't know really. But logically speaking, the better the sound quality, the better the chances, no?

Anonymous said...

i am dying to audtion!!
is it too late ?

and can someone explain a minis one tape for me cuz i still dont get it

Liz said...

Hi Chloe, let me try to explain minus one again. You know karaoke, right? You have music playing in the background, and maybe some backing vocals going on, but you sing the lead?

Yeah, minus one is similar to that as well. You record the lead vocals for the song. Do you get it now?

If you don't, please go to: Backing Track at Wikipedia.

Anonymous said...

thanx liz.
i get it now thank you...
^_^

i going to audition now!!

Liz said...

Your welcome, chloe. Remember us if or when you make it big, OK? ;-)

Anonymous said...

i will be sure to thank everyone at k popped when i become famous lol.^_^
wish me luck !!!

Anonymous said...

Hi Liz...I have a question about the minus one recording...I think I got what you said to chloe, but can I just pick any song or do I have to pick a song I've composed or so ;) ?

Anonymous said...

Hello liz...I've got a question.
...it sais:'Applicants who are successful in the e-mail audition will be called for a meeting in person.' ...Well, I'm Vietnamese but I live in Germany...so how will the *meeting in person* be able to work??

Liz said...

Anonymous 1 & 2 (do you guys have a name I can call you with?): Oh dear, I'm just the messenger here and in no way officially affiliated to J-Tune so wouldn't know as well.

Anonymous 1, logically, you could send in a minus one of any song.If you are auditioning to become a singer, it doesn't matter if you are singing your own song or Celine Dion's. They just want to hear you.

However, if you want to apply to be a music composer as well, you should send in your original compositions.

If you're auditioning for both, then singing your original composition would be the way to go.

Anonymous 2: Why don't you start worrying about that after you've made the cut?

Oh, I just found 'minus-one recording' actually exists, but it's still not something they meant..

Anonymous said...

Hii...well, I'm both *Anonymous*: 1and 2 ;)...you can call me Theo.
Thx for the answer to the first question!! I got it now ;)
I really want to audition...but I'm also very worried about what will happen if I'll be successful in the email audition as I said before!!I hope the have some representatives here in Germany, too..^^! Anyway...I think I'll give it a try!
Thx Liz

Liz said...

Hello everyone, I did the translation here for fun, but many have been asking me about audition details *bites fingernails*.

So in the interest of those who are seriously looking to audition for Rain, I got a friend Joe Gimm to help me check my work and there are some corrections to the translation. So please do read it again.

Theo in Germany, your worries about that 'meeting in person' can be put to rest as it doesn't actually say that. It just says that those who pass the audition will be contacted.

Also, all applicants who are trying out to become a singer should send in a music file (is that right, Joe?) with your application.

Sorry for the inconvenience and all the best to those who are trying out. Remember K-popped! and those all-access backstage pass, huh? :-)

Unknown said...

Yes. Just a music file of you singing^^

Good luck for everyone^^

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much, Liz and Joe!!
I got it now ;)

Liz said...

Your welcome Theo!

Anonymous said...

Hey guys...
how can you be sure that this is a real/valid audition?...
Is there any evidence?
I mean...eg. SM auditions (and discussions about it) were posted everywhere on the net...but not Bi's audition?!
Can anyone answer my question please?

Liz said...

Hello Ina,

Well for starters, the audition call was taken from Rain's official website, so I think that holds a lot of clout.

Also, I think Rain did mention when he was in China during the Mid Autumn Festival that he is looking for talents to join his new company.

Anonymous said...

hey when we send a "music file", is it a file with only music or video too? because i tried sending something and it said the file was too big.

Anonymous said...

does it have to be on a minus-one track? caus i jus recorded this perfect piece and then raed that it had to be a minus one track ==
please get bak asap!
*in anticipation waitin :P*

Anonymous said...

Hey, do you have to be korean to sign up for this?

Anonymous said...

Or, i mean like, do you have to live in korea to sign up for this, and is it still active now, and is acctually real?

Anonymous said...

uhhhmmm,
if you wanna try out for something BESIDES singing, then all you do is send in a picture ?

Anonymous said...

i'm doing it! i'll tell you guys all about it after i'm done mwaahhaha

hazeeqah poji said...

Unknown said...

Anonymous said...
