MYK Quiz 1: The Match Up

여러분 안녕하세요? (yeo-reo-boon an-nyeong-ha-se-yo? = Hello everyone.)

Since there isn’t a Mind Your Korean installment today because there wasn’t any class, and taking into consideration Ladida’s suggestion, I’ve decided to come up with a quiz based on what we’ve shared so far.

I hope you’ll take part in it for fun (sorry, we don’t have prizes to give away we have a prize now! Read on to find out what it is!) and if you spot errors in the structure of the quiz, 미안합니다 (mianhamnida = Sorry). I just hope I didn’t botch it up too much. Answers will be published next Wednesday (Feb 6).

In the meantime, please submit your answers as a comment in this entry and no peeking! But if you really, really have to, I’ve provided a “Hint” link. Have fun!

Match the question/sentence in Section I to the most appropriate response in Section II. Write your answers like so: 1J, 2G, 3D (examples only) etc.

i really enjoy your MYK series! so here are my answers with a bit of commentary on each. i was strict on myself and worked without hints. i did process of elimination though.
but yeah, this series is really helpful! thanks for sharing your chronicles! i recognize some of the phrases instantly. i just gotta work on the characters. okay my answers:
1C
2H [i think it means "i'm okay" or something along the lines of "to be okay"?]
3A [had no clue about the question. means "i am jeong ji hoon"?]
4I
5B [저는 필리핀 사람이에요. me too!]
6G 7D 8J 9E
10F [i think it meant "do you want lemon tea?" cause cha is tea in mandarin as well...if i can recollect.]

pardon my essay-long answer. i'm learning though! this is fun! thanks again! i'm excited for the next installment. and if anything, i am totally like rooster when it comes to counting sheep.

Hi hjn, may I know where you get korean keyboard stickers ? Im looking for it actually.

Shuxie, go ahead and read up on the MYK entries before you try the quiz :-) You have until next Wednesday (1st day of CNY) :-)

Juni, we are just sharing what we've learnt and not qualified to be anyone's Teacher, actually. We still need to be corrected! :-P

Pronunciation? Man that would be tough. Who'd want to listen to a podcast by a couple of Malaysian girls speaking Korean anyway? People would rather go for native speakers, no?

Anne, phew. Let me make an educated guess on that sentence. You're saying you're happy and asking whether we have class next week as usual? Did I get it right?

The answer would be in the affirmative :-).

Anonymous said...

The first half was that she had fun, not that she's happy.

양생: if you win the quiz, you do not need to buy the Korean keyboard stickers. ;-)

Liz said...

Hey all, we have a prize for our first quiz. Kewl!

Liz said...

Ah thanks Clammy, for clearing that up.

ooohhh yay this looks fun!!
and those sticky hanguel helpers would be so the best!!!

1-c (greetings)
2-j (yess - im with ksw sshi hehe)
3-a (i am rain??)
4-g (no, not at all)
5-b(i am philipino)
6-h (sweet as)
7-d (me too, nice to meet you!)
8-i (these are shoes)
9-e (age??)
10-f (no lemon tea??)

didnt go back and look at the lessons, tried to remember from memory so if theres lots of wrong answers then thats why, however i did understand quite a bit of it which is surprising!! kamsahamnida for nurturing my korean learning!!

Those Korean keyboard stickers would come in useful. I type really REALLY slow in Hangul now.

neato! i wasn't expecting this. I thought the test has been postponed til after you've finished your 10-12 wks course. U girls are 'jjang'! Plus, it's a mix & match exercise. No way I'm dropping out (yet). ;->
Right or wrong, here are my answers (no hints involved):
1c, 2j, 3a, 4g, 5b, 6h, 7d, 8i, 9e, 10f

hmm...it's a good thing u didn't trick us w/more multiple choices to select from sect. II. ...cuz i have no clue what #9 was asking. I just know that 'myeot' refers to 'how many (+ counter word)' & there's a word 'sarieyo' in sect. ii that matches this question. Also, I guessed on multiple choice 'I'. I know it's thing..a purse, maybe? Anway it just begs the question 'what is it?'

hey ladida, decided to create a quiz since an idea hit and there was a break due to a public holiday.

Will explain things in the answers next week, so watch out for it :-). Also, the winner will be announced as well.

If anyone else in the Southern California area at the end of Feb, you should check out this thing called Kollaboration. It's basically an Asian American Talent show and generally Korean American celebrities show up too. A good majority of them are Korean Americans. Already known artist and performers come as well. www.kollaboration.org

Orchid said...

Clammy, are you going for it?

Ladida: You are not in Southern California? Are you in NYC?

Anonymous said...

I might go to it cause a lot of my friends are going as I have a few friends that will probably be performing. Also, some of my friends help put it together.

Ladida is in Northern California. Northern California = NoCal and Souther California = SoCal.

NYC..oh, Orchid, you're so cute. Trust me, i'm not laughing at u; i'm laughing w/ya XD
This is the 1st time i've been introduced to Kollaboration. Would it make a diff. if i told u that i'm not orig. hail from the Golden State? So, how long has Kollaboration been established? Is the showcase concept similar to Apollo? Do u know which celebs began their career on that very stage? I guess I'll have to check out the site later for answers.
As much as it intrigues me, I have to say it's a negative (for now). LA is like 4-5hrs drive from where I live. Plus my sense of direction is horrible. People who know me are well awared that my inner compass is perpetually broken :)
