Boseong and Cameron Highlands Tea Plantations

A couple of weeks ago, our Korean teacher gave us a green tea bag each. Son-saeng-nim (teacher) said that she bought it in K-town, Ampang and want us to try her favourite brand of green tea. It's from South Korea's famous Boseong Plantations and the tea leaves are plucked when young, thus giving the tea a very light refreshing taste.

The Korean words on the tea package says:
보성녹차 (Boseong nok-cha) , it means "Boseong Green Tea"

Enjoy Boseong nok-cha hot or cold.
I like it chilled with ice. Very refreshing!

Son-saeng-nim also told us that the Boseong Tea Plantation was the filming location for the 2003 Korean drama Summer Scent (여름향기) which stars Song Seung-heon and Son Ye-jin. Have you seen this drama?

Boseong Tea Plantation, South Korea

The Boseong Dongwon Tea Plantation is located on the southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula. The plantation was established in 1957 and ideal months to visit are May - August. Boseong is Korea's largest tea-producing city and produces 40% of the country's domestic tea. If you visit the rolling hills of Boseong during the Boseong Green Tea Festival (May), you will be able to purchase just-harvested, high-quality tea at an affordable price.

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

Boseong in Korea reminds me of Malaysia's Cameron Highlands. Cameron Highlands is located in the state of Pahang (smack in the middle of Peninsula Malaysia) and is our country's premier hill resort. Cameron Highlands is famous for it's cool climate, tea plantations, strawberry and vegetable farms, and also butterfly and flower gardens.

Here i will share some photos taken when i was vacationing at Cameron Highlands. I visited two tea plantations there namely the Boh Sungai Palas Tea Estate and Bharat Tea Estate. No visit to Cameron Highlands is complete without going to one of the tea plantations.

I must warn you though, the drive to the Sungai Palas plantation is very challenging as you will be driving along the narrow hillside. Getting to the plantation is quite an adventure! But the dangerous drive is well worth it as you will be rewarded when you get to the Sungai Palas Visitor Center and stop for a cuppa at the cafe there.

Things to do at Sungai Palas tea plantation:

• Go for a guided tour of the tea factory

• Enjoy a drink of tea and snacks at the cafe over-looking the rolling hills

• Shop at the Boh Tea shop where you will be spoilt for choice as they have so many kinds of tea and exotic flavours such as "lychee rose"
