Colbert rivals Rain for 2008 TIME 100

Rain (26) and Stephen Colbert's (43) war for the #1 spot on TIME 100 Online list is hilarious. In the TIME 100 list, TIME Magazine will shortlist 100 influential personalities as the finalists. The people (yes YOU) get to vote your favourite.

Last year, Rain was #1 and Colbert made a Korean music video (based on Rain's 2004 hit "Running Away from the Sun") to poke fun at Rain. Remember? You can view the MV on Comedy Central.

This year during the voting period, Rain was leading at #1, and Colbert was trailing at #4. Colbert rallied for people to vote for him on The Colbert Report (both the T's for "Colbert" and "Report" is silent, yeah that's the right way to pronounce it!)

In a recent TIME interview, Rain finally responded to Colbert's music video & teasing.

RAIN says (yes in English!):
I think um, I have to say, you look almost as good as me.
As for the singing, let's just say...please don't quit your day job.

COLBERT responds:
My day job just happens to be the President of the "I HATE RAIN" fan club. Don't worry, my day job is quite secure.

The Colbert Report - Rain Rivalry Challenge (April 23, 2008)

Both of them are just so funny. I bet they would want to meet each other now. Anyway, Colbert challenges Rain to a dance off. Rain actually flew to New York to appear on Stephen Colbert's show!! Anyone seen the footages yet?

So who won? Despite the intense rivalry between Rain & Colbert, there is a surprise winner this year. The numero uno spot goes to ... neither Colbert nor Rain. Check out the list below.

TIME 100 Most Influential 2008 LIST

Drumroll please...

  1. Shigeru Miyamoto (1,929,758 votes) (He's the man who brought you the Nintendo Wii!)

  2. Rain (1,544,992 votes)

  3. Stephen Colbert (895,415 votes)

  4. Heidi Klum (26,587)

  5. Tyra Banks (17,010)

Hmm...Rain still is ahead of Colbert and i think they should beef up his profile. Can't wait to see what happened when Rain makes a guest appearance on The Colbert Report! Are you anxious too?

ahahaha, I remeber watching Colbert's little Korean MV, it was very funny! I'm glad that neither of them got the top spot, Shigeru Miyamoto definately deserved it! I mean come on, the Wii!!! xD

I wonder what the 'danceoff' will be like, is he really going to dance, or are they just doing an interview? hmm, I really wanna see it! I think it's tonight....I wanna see, I wanna see!!!

Actually, the "T" isn't silent in "Report."

Hi!

Well yeah Colbert has a different way of pronouncing his name is COL ber but report is report with a T that is not silent. :)

Colbert is really funny! Rain went to NYC Comedy Central studios at the beginning of this week and stood there for an hour I believe he is in London right now, as for the dance off... Rains last appearance on the show was that video you just posted. It hasn't been confirmed as of yet when will he be on the show again (Hopefully the recording will air soon!)
I am dying to see this Dance off!

Take care =^_^=

Stephen Colbert does pronounce it "The COLBER REPOR".

Check out the video embedded in this entry. The first thing he says is "Welcome to the REPORT (pronounced REPOR) everybody".

Miyamoto deserved this running away. Nintendo has absolutely influenced modern culture beyond what you can imagine. Truthfully, if it wasn't for all the fangirls frantically voting online in asia, Rain wouldn't even be on this list.

As far as his appearance on the Colbert Report, hopefully it's a dance-off and not an interview. Colbert is extremely sarcastic and very articulate. Rain can barely put two sentences together, much less comprehend sarcasm. I expect a translator to be there.

OMG! that would totally pave his career in the US =]

That was hilarious! SEE! In the end, there's really no real bad feelings towards Rain. So those Rain-fanatics shouldn't be so worried. Steven Colbert finds Rain to be adorable! Good thing Rain did that SpeedRacer movie so he now has the greater opportunity to face his nemesis. Thanks.

Colbert may just pave Rain's way into Hollywood. What a break for the guy.

I love when Colbert fanboyed over Rain
I read on a blog that it's supposed to air May 5th so keep an eye out

i really don't understand the choice for TIME 'influential' people. what are the criteria of being 'influential' here? how are those celebrities like actors, singers and models 'influential'? there are a lot of 'great' people in the list but three out of four at the top are celebrities!! what a pity!! as much as i love music and watching movies and dramas and what not ... i wouldn't consider singers and actors whom i like, merely in their capacity as singers and actors, as being 'influential'!!

^this is just the poll
the actual list that is published in the magazine is different

yeah .. my friend just told me that there are two different set of lists for this. thank God for that. and being a Malaysian, i am proud to know that Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim is in the (other)list of 100 most influential people!!!

He doesn't hate Rain. It's his character that he portrays on his show.

Besides,it's just comedy. To make us laugh and have a good time.

@famousalchemist Yeah we know...their "pseudo rivalry" is too entertaining. =)

Colbert is really funny! Rain is a good sport, he's not offended on Colbert. I think it's a good publicity for Rain, bec. Colbert is a well-known personality in the US. I've watched their dance show down and I was really laughed hard! They're so funny!
