Philippine remake of My Lovely Samsoon

Mabuhay dear readers! How's the weather like in the Philippines these days? It rains a whole lot in Malaysia...water everywhere.

Thanks to K-popped! reader Coffee from the Philippines, we have some juicy info on the remake of the Philippine version of smash hit drama My Lovely Samsoon!

Original Korean version: The hit drama stars (from left) Kim Sun-ah,
Jung Ryu-won (seated), Daniel Henney and Hyunbin

GMA Network, one of the leading TV networks in the Philippines, has acquired the rights to make a local version of My Lovely Samsoon. The original version of the drama, which starred Kim Sun-ah and Hyunbin, was aired by the channel in 2006.

Singer/actress Regine Velasquez is set to portray the titular character Sam-soon, who is a 30-year-old patissier looking for love.

Kim Sam-soon: Velasquez (left) takes on Kim Sun-ah's titular
character in the remake of My Name is Kim Sam-soon

Tackling the role of Jin-heon (played by Hyunbin in the original) is Mark Anthony Fernandez.

Jin-heon: Mark Anthony Fernandez (left) portrays Hyunbin's
character in the remake

Supporting characters such as Hee-jin (Jung Ryu-won) and Dr. Henry Kim (Daniel Henney) goes to Nadine Samonte and Dr. Hayden Kho Jr. respectively. Uh huh, that Dr. Hayden Kho Jr is a doctor in real life!

What's up, Doc?: I think I'd prefer Daniel Henney's Dr. Henry Kim
examining me instead of Hayden Kho Jr.'s (left). Tee hee....

Filming of the Philippine remake is scheduled to begin on May 1st for a late July 2008 release. Filming location is in Baguio City.

So K-popped! readers, are you excited about the Philippine remake? Will you be tuning in to catch the show when it airs?

although i am planning on watching it when they air it on cable. im not expecting much from quality. philippine remakes tend to butcher a lot the original thing that they are "remaking". its like they use the names, the original storyline, and the concept initially for like the first few weeks.. but they dont follow it the rest of the time. phippines's approach to these things are way different. they just buy the rights to the name to create interest from watchers but not to actually follow it.

hmm. but i heard there's a new collab between malaysia and philippines in a new drama? did you guys see the first one? ever heard of it? hehe.

K-popped thanks for posting this, that was so quick he he. It's sunny here and very very hot! Anyway, Belle is actually right, that Philippine remakes tends to butcher the original thing and do not stick to the original storyline. I hope that they will not do that in that in this series, so that it will not loose its original "essence". Regine is an excellent actress, as well as Mark Anthony, I just hope they will give justice to their roles as Sam Soon and Jin Heon. Anyway, I'll sure watch it!

i've never did like the korean My Lovely Samsoon.. i'm not expecting too much on this. the actors aren't exactly top notch - decent, but not the best. and the tv network company that they're all in doesn't exactly carry on a roster of great talents. btw, that pic of mark anthony doesn't give him justice (or maybe he already aged too much?)

Anonymous said...

people who think that remakes tend to "butcher" the originals hasn't seen that much remakes. chinese, koreans and japanese create version of each other's shows/series and the plot, OF COURSE, change to include the country's own culture and influence. STUPID.

i'm from the philippines and i'm already tired of all the low-quality korean dramas that keeps on airing on the local tv stations. i know it's cheaper to buy the show instead of creating a lot of new ones but geeezzz, a remake???

did you read carefully? they said
"those PHILIPPINE remakes tend to butcher the original thing"...
please do read carefully before calling somebody STUPID...

Anonymous said...

what the fuck are you calling ugly kpop-rubba? have you fuckin' seen them in person? it's only that the pictures are not the best of them, idiot.

Anonymous said...

i have to agree with k-pop rubba, the guys are fugly..lol..well, compare to the original cast it is..the girls are not bad..but ofcoz i prefer the Korean actress..original is always the best..:D

Anonymous said...

Korean guys look like fags any way

Anonymous said...

a must see remake!

Anonymous said...

mark anthony fernandez is yummy. you can find a better picture of him.
anyhow, the other station is going to remake My Girl.

Anonymous said...

whoa chill out anon
the dudes are ugly
lmao i dont think seeing them in person or any other pics is gonna save them.
Finding hott dudes in the Phillipines is not that hard... sheesh

the other TV station (ABS CBN) are planning a remake of My Girl... frankly like this MNIKSS remake i'm not all that fond of the cast.

the details for the official My Girl remake -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Girl_%28Philippine_TV_series%29

apparently its a joint production with SBS Korea.

Frankly, I'm Filipino myself, but I would never make this remake. The Philippine industry sucks at making dramas... sadly, but yes!

Anonymous said...

ok omg what d heck!!!
i am not excited at all!!!
they're just going to ruin one
of the best dramas in hallyu history!!!!!
i am a filipino myself so yeah
im telling u right now this is going 2 be a disaster....
they're just going 2 butcher the drama!!!
pls... stop remaking dramas!

ps. and yes those guys are ugly especially w/ one of them coming out of rehab! ppl if u watch this show i warn u... u won't be happy...

Anonymous said...

I agree with Belle. They tend to butcher a lot of stuff. And yes, My Girl has a remake on the other station. I'm not excited either, even if I'm from the Philippines. Well, I hope they give justice to the original.

Anonymous said...

I see a lot of rants hahaha!

Not surprising since we pretty much have a bad track record when it comes to these stuff. BUT there are admittedly some really good dramas. And GMA 7 has a good roster of writers so I think they'll do a decent job with this one. I hope.

Samsoon is a very popular k-drama so the expectations are really high.

My Girl on the other hand...well, I mean...can't they get anyone other than Kim Chiu?!?!

Sandara Park is oodles better than her. And that's saying a lot. 0_o

Unknown said...

The original actors and actresses are so much cuter and young looking! Go Korea!

Anonymous said...

i guess the cast here is much better than the My Girl one...they're all veteran actors (except hayden of course) and why not give it a try instead of bashing your own fellow Filipinos??? Judge it after you watch it! and besides, those Koreans think so highly of themselves because we Filipinos tend to "butcher" our own! damn it! anyway, nadine is a good actress and i'll definitely try to watch this!

Anonymous said...

That's because Filipino are so full of themselves, and I'm FILIPINO.. They think of themselves so highly, but in reality, they have nothing. AHHH!!

Unknown said...

wow! thanks for posting this! this is pretty exciting and interesting. we'll have to see how this goes down.

on a side note, kim sun ah looks really cute in that picture. also, that picture of dr. hayden kho doesn't do its justice. it's kinda dark. but i agree, i'd choose dr. henry any day. hehe.
i could picture regine being samsoon. i'm TRYING to picture mark anthony fernandez.

philippines is also doing a My Girl remake but on ABS-CBN, GMAs rival network. that'll star Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, I believe.

Anonymous said...

wow, do filipinos really think of themselves that negatively?

of course it won't be the same as the original. that's why it's a REmake. they will REmake it, meaning it won't be exactly the same. if you don't want to watch it, then don't.

Anonymous said...

Wow fisty Comments!!

Anonymous said...

The thing with remake is that you either love it or hate it. There's no in-between and from the looks so far I'm thinking it's going the way of the latter.

Anonymous said...

umm..y are they jackin korea's stuff? soap operas should never be remade. it's tacky.

Anonymous said...

hey people calm down no need to call them ugly or stupid...
and please do not refer to FILIPINOES being too full of themselves..we do have lots of good
actors and actresses it's just that the casts here really are..
nevermind!!

and to the person who said filipinoes have nothing? m telling you you haven't seen much of the millionaires. and if that's the case why the hell do some foreigners come to our country?

Anonymous said...

why do others think negatively of something they havent seen yet? i mean, filipinos enjoyed Marimar remake why cant we enjoy MNIKSS as well? regine is a good actress.. i personally feel that this is going to be a good remake coz regine is a natural comedian herself... as for the rest of the cast, nadine samonte has proven herself in such roles before..

as for the My Girl version, gerald anderson is way too young to be the main actor...

just thinking out loud though.. sorry to those who wouldnt like my comment...

Anonymous said...

Hey is this war, or something? This post is just about a remake of a drama, why fight?! People have no right to say the people in the Philippines (or in any case people in other countries) are ugly. It's just plain simple, if you don't want to watch it, then don't! No one is forcing you to do so. And pls. to my fellow Filipinos here, stop bashing each other. Insteas let's support our local showbiz industry. No wonder we're tagged to have this "crab mentally".. Tskk... tsssk.. rssk..

HEADS UP K-POPPED PEOPLE!

"FULL HOUSE" IS GETTING A FILIPINO VERSION!

GMA 7 just announced today that they are going for a remake of the popular drama. Heart Evangelista already signed on to play Song Hye Gyo's character. They are still on the look out on who's gonna be Rain but the buzz is it's gonna be Richard Gutierez.

I know a lot of people are gonna throw major bitch fits on this news but really, the beauty of k-drama is that it is pretty much adaptable/relatable to any Asian culture. THE ORIGINAL IS ALWAYS GONNA BE BETTER but please consider that thought.

Also as much as I want to see new and fresh dramas from the Philippines (instead of buying it Mexican or Korean or Japanese series), I suppose this isn't as bad considering that the new dramas are pretty much crap. >_<

Heart Evangelista is really pretty. She's no Song Hye Gyo but she's pretty in her own way. And she has decent acting skills. :)

My comment is too long. Sorry. ;)

And people don't fight! If you don't want to watch any of these remakes you don't have to! Peace. lol

I'm not fond of remakes (and I have watched a lot of disappointing ones), it's better if they just make a drama that's been discreetly inspired by the original Korean version than passing it off as a remake.

Anyway, am I the only one who thought Hyun Bin looked hot in that pic?! Daniel Henney looked really yummy too...^^

Sam-soon is one of my all-time fav dramas. If they're remaking My Girl, how much worse could it get?

Anonymous said...

Haaaaaa.. Even though im a Filipina myself, i don't think i would watch it.. xD i like the originals hehe
Sorreh, but the actors/es don't look so hot though HEHE XDD

Anonymous said...

Hi, I am from Philippines...a lot of remakes even the one created by the US is not that all good.

I have been a one time fan of "guapings" where Mark previously belong and he was handsome back then. He is still now and I want to give him a chance here. I want him to get up after being an addict. Now he is a father and responsible husband I think he can do this drama. I just do not trust the script written by the GMA team.

I am an ABS CBN fan and their drama scripts are fantastic but they have flaws too I say very big flaws. FYI...to every Filipino if an actors is/was cut off suddenly from any abs-cbn drama because they are always late. ABS do not tolerate tirediness. They demand your time.

Anonymous said...

honestly, what is up with this idea. im a filipino and i hate the fact that they're butchering one of the leading k-drama's ever. T.T my girl in another station, my lovely kim sam soon in that station, and rumors have it that they're trying to make a local version of full house. T^T i'm not at all happy about the cast and everything, but then again, ho am i to complain TT.TT

Anonymous said...

oh bloody....could they not pick a better actress than regine velasquez!!!! regine is not likeable at all...

Anonymous said...

i'll still watch it if i can get a copy of it here in sydney. :(
i reckon it's better to see both sides of the coin to have a constructive review about the matter. goodluck to gma and abs-cbn projects.

Anonymous said...

I'm Filipino and I think majority of filipino movies suck. I haven't really seen any dramas except something called flores but I bet they all suck.
If someone is willing to prove me wrong then someone tell about an actually decent filipino movie or drama I could watch.

Anonymous said...

Why are there so many remakes. Why can't Filipinos come up with something original and that's worth watching.

Anonymous said...

I wont watch this. Argh. Why do they have to do remakes.

Anonymous said...

marel here...

hello coffee!!!

it's really "not so suprising" how we filipinos react to this post...and it's also funny because we have all the same reaction...

mga magkababayan nga tayo mga pinoy!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh God I can't imagine Richard Gutierrez doing Lee young-jae in full house..No one beats Rain doing that role..But what can we do, Rain is just one person and he's not Filipino so i'll just bear with Richard i guess..

Anonymous said...

hi, im a filipino....first of all, "AKO SI KIM SAM SOON" is the first korean remake of GMA 7, and its not yet aired,,,,the other remake of ABS CBN, w/c is the first korean remake here in the philippines is not that good, i can say that coz i already saw it. My girl- low quality and the cast are not that good. GMA never called LUPIN, ZAIDO, a remake, they just brought the rights and that's it. Their official remake is only MARIMAR and its a job well done, it ranked as the number 1 primetime show here in phils., the cast and the quality of the show is excellent.... And now, they're making a pinoy version of kim sam soon...... well, i should say that mark anthony is not that handsome but the role really fits to him, his character is whacky and
that makes him more like cyrus,,, regine, the best, very good actress, and nadine, okay, fine....hayden kho, okay fine..... that's the ony thing i can say about the main casts.....but what im ver excited of is the quality.....it really looks like the original version , i think they really edited and used high quality camera's.....
