K-popped! readers want a day at the vineyard with Yoon Eun-hye

We asked our readers what they wanted for Christmas and Coffee Prince darling Yoon Eun-hye came up tops!

Before we announce the results, a heartfelt thank you to all 522 voters who participated in the poll.

It looks like many of our readers are Yoon Eun-hye fans as 139 (26%) voted for a day at the vineyard with the 23-year-old actress.

Yoon Eun-hye waves to all who'd like to spend
a day at the vineyard with her.

However, many readers also picked the opportunity to duet with Xiah Junsoo of TVXQ as their most-wanted Christmas present. 112 (21%) were eager to exercise their vocal chords with the young man.

At 3rd place is Big Bang. 83 (15%) of our readers wanted a pair of Big Bang concert tickets.

Here are the rest of the results:

4th - smooching lessons from Kwon Sang-woo (52/9%) - hey, I voted for this ;-). Why so low? You don't want to kiss Sang-woo oppa? Are you freakin' kiddin' me?
5th - go clubbing with Se7en (44/8%)
6th - teach English to Song Hye-kyo (37/7%)
7th - have curves like Kim Hye-soo (30/5%)
8th - have a round of soju with Lee Hyori (17/3%) - we don't have many Hyori fans here? Where did all the Korean men go?

Aww, not many would want a round of
soju with this sexpot. How sad.

9th - a pair of JYP see-through pants (8/1%) - to the eight persons who picked this, please, only wear the pants when you are all alone. Thank you.

clammy: What's "jjang"?

Is it a Korean slang word?

Anonymous said...

Yoon Eun Hye! I voted for her. She's just too adorable to resist.
Thanks k-popped sisters for all the positive and even the constructive criticisms about YEH in your blog. Your blog rocks and it's really refreshing compared to shitty bloggers like Popseoul who post nothing but negative stuff.
I really enjoy visiting your site.
Happy New Year to y'all!

I picked Hyori too! *High fives Clammy*

Nyaaaa~! I voted for Junsu! :D

I would love to have duet with Xiah. Hehehe :) drown in my dreamz now! Orchid, jjang is a slang, it means 'the best' like 'ul-jjang'. Ul is short form of face and jjang means the best, the great. So when you combine it means the best face or the prettiest. Koreans right now have this trend of shortened and combine words together to form a new word. Mostly teenagers because they do this when they chat aither with their friends or in the internet.

ahhh....meiruo_chan...i know you!! ;-)

Thanks for explaining about "jjang". I am really impressed. You say you stay in a "not so modern" place, yet you know so much about Korean culture and language!

Anonymous said...

Haha...well, it is! My place is still 'not so modern'. But the good thing is I'm an Internet addicts too. So I spent most of my hours in front of my pc digging all the info on the Korea and of course the info that I want! And of course after my office hours though! And what makes me so lonely is when I start talking about these so called technology and all about Korea stuff, people around me suddenly goes completely blank! 진짜 외롭다!

Anonymous said...

meiruo-chan already explained it. Jjang means the best or number one (not literally). It's essentially slang and like many korean slang terms, doesn't really work for everything. Chaego (Chaegoya = "it's the best") also means essentially the same thing.

P.S. Chaego isn't slang though but it is fairly informal.

I've been always curious about...

"omo omo omo" and "aigoo"

Are those just Korean expressions?
When do you use the former and when the latter? Are they the same?

Like in Malaysia we have "alamak" which is very Malaysian!

Anonymous said...

Orchid, I think 'omo' and 'aigo' are an expressions. And the meaning can can be differ to the situation. Koreans always had these expressions in certain situation when they shocked for example they would say Omo! and that means oh, my God! or Omo, you are so cute! Like that...
And for aigo it's also the same like aigo~~~ you're so cute! or aigo..i'm so damn tired!

I tried to find them in a dictionary before and didn't get exact explanation. So I tried to used these when I chat with my Koreans friend and it turn out well. So I assume they are expression and you can used it either former or latter.

p/s : I found these kind of words are cute. always use them with my lil' sis.

I CANNOT BELIEVE JUNSU LOST! Sorry for screaming but ~ WHY???!!! My apologies to what's-her-name fans but seriously ~ the voice of Junsu is so rich and velvety... even the dead would wake. Sigh... Just because he doesn't wear skimpy...

Orchid Aigoo and Omo... well let's see. Omo omo omo or Omuna is similair "to oh my!" or "oh my god!" Aigoo or Aiyoo is I guess, much like a sigh, or can be used that way. But it's more of a verbal sigh "Aiyoo hiimduroh" (sigh, how difficult.) It's also used to be oh my or my god as well. They are more or less interchangable except that you really wouldn't use omo as a sigh.

Aigoo-cham or Aigoo-cham na can be used in a similair fashion to someone saying "unbelievable!" when witnessing something stupid. The Aigoo-cham na or just cham na is almost "oh my" or "my my" but in a much more condescending tone. Hmm, it's hard to explain cause I can use them for so many different things. Most of the time I'm using it while watching someone do something stupid.

Omo, on the otherhand, is used a lot in surprise reactions. like "omo omo omo, iigeh moyah?" (omo omo omo, what is this?) but I'm not sure if that could really be "my my my what is this?" because in english that would be used in a tone of pleasant curiosity where as in Korean it would be used more in a tone of pleasant surprise.

Going back to Cham or Aigoo-cham or Aigoo-cham na... if you just use "Cham" it's similar to a "hmph!" and Aigoo-cham na would be a more expressive version of Aigoo-cham.

I guess I could go on if you wanted me to but uh.. I hope you get the drift.

meiruo_chan you're a genius, you know so much about the korean language by just self-studying alone!?

Thanks to everyone who's discussing about the language, I feel like I'm having "extra classes" on the blog. It's a good thing, by the way ;-).

To anonymous who voted for JYP's pants, to each his own. Ha ha ha, you're funny.

Anonymous said...

hi, Liz. Thanks...haha..I'm not genius. It's just that I'm so passionate about this one language. And that passion really help a lot.

Well, it's always good thing to have discussion over something that we're curious about. This is going to be an interesting free 'extra-class'.
